It’s a probably not a good sign for a show when my first thought after its sixth-season finale is: “Hey, is that Jim Edmonds??!”;
It was Jim Edmonds. It was also a very sad day for Entourage, friends. I was willing to give it one last, hail mary-esque chance with last night’s ep, and while it wasn’t as mind-numbingly awful as the show has been in recent weeks, it’s pretty safe to say the show we know and love is dead and buried. On to the highlights!
I suppose I’ll start with the lovebirds…if I must. First I’d like to say that Entouragehas always been a show for dudes. It’s about dudes hanging out, getting with chicks, doing general dude activities and I’m cool with that. But that’s also why I’ve always been a big fan of Sloan. She, along with Mrs. Ari, is a beautiful, likeable, well-written female character in this sausage fest of a television program. So you can imagine my rage when they pulled that waffle job with her last night. Oddly enough, I was actually on her side when she was reading E the riot act after his botched lunch date. He was being really unfair, and redundant, and generally acting like a prick. So we’re left with that ring cliffhanger, she looks pretty pissed off and then we come to find out…She accepted his damn proposal??! Really? What a complete joke. That’s the payoff we got after all that damn back-and-forth this season? A completely illogical engagement when it looked like she was ready to kill him? What a disaster.
Moving on..mercifully. I guess it’s fitting that the story arc with the most potential also had an anticlimactic flameout. I’m speaking of Ari’s hostile takeover of Terrence’s firm. We started out strong with a solid Ari rant in the shrink’s office (Although the anal-raping joke was a bit much, even for Ari). After Ari was given the financial blessing of his Mrs., we were led to believe that he actually is willing to call the whole thing off just because Terrence would keep the company’s name after the merger. I realize Ari is a prideful beast, but he is also a savvy businessman and he would have torealize the benefits of keeping the name. Lucky for us, he did! Literally 20 minutes later! "Spinning its wheels" doesn’t even begin to describe the awkward manner in which the writers chose to handle that little conflict. Ari and Terrence made nice in a scene in which both Piven and Malcom McDowell were trying desperately to make these words meansomething to me, but it just fell on its face. Something about working together for a long time? Always knowing they had the company’s interest at heart…or something? I’ve lost interest all over again. However, it was very nice to see Lloyd and Ari make nice, and to see Davies get his. But again, paintball gun? Is that the best we’ve got?
There was also Turtle, who couldn’t bring himself to consummate the deal with that smokin’ co-ed and decided to jet off to New Zealand to win Jamie back. But before his plane took off, Jamie got him on the horn and promptly explained that the long-distance thing just wouldn’t work and that she didn’t want to put him in that position, particularly when he is finally getting his life together. I thought this was actually pretty nice. A believable, tangible reason for two people not to be together. Unfortunately, this was notparticularly interesting for anyone to watch. I have two immediate thoughts: 1) Why was Jamie calling from a steel mill? and 2) Do people still think the "sitting between two fat people on a plane" joke is funny?
Vince getting hounded by Matt Damon for the charity stuff had its moments. Damon is just so damn funny, repeatedly saying “It’s for the children” and whatnot. I really enjoyed it. Lebron James, doing his best Pharrell impression, was pretty much unnecessary, meaning he gets the Michael Phelps award for “Most Random Cameo by a Superstar Athlete in a Season Finale” Award! Congrats, Bron. Put it on the mantle next to your MVP.
And then, we had Drama. Far and away, my favorite development of last night. I always though the idea of the elder Chase just taking a break to hang out with Vince was pretty awful, and he finally wised up and went to read for the new Melrose, but not before hitting us with the best monologue of the season, in which he recounted all his failures in TV, commercials, plays and show business in general. He was bitter, but had come to terms with the fact that he is the kind of actor who will always have to sing for his supper. Look at that, introspective, thought-provoking character analysis. Bravo on that front. And just when we thought we were headed for another failed Drama audition, the Melrose producer (played perfectly by the underrated William Fichtner) informed Johnny that he was getting a holding deal as a precursor to his own series. Drama. The lead. In a TV series. I was so genuinely happy for him. I can’t remember the last time I had that kind of emotional response while watching this show. It made so much sense, given all the meltdowns and failures we’ve seen Drama encounter. Fantastic.
But, ultimately, we’ve got a lot of uninteresting action going on here, am I right? This is what we have to hold us over until next fall. But I will have one more Entourage post this year. I promised you my theory to fix the show this week, but I’ve hit my word limit here and have decided it needs its own post. So, stay tuned!
You are a complete retard. First of within your first sentence there is a grammar error just showing how stupid you are. You are clearly a hack with absolutely no idea about tv or movies. This season has been genius and this episode put it over the top. It was brilliantly written everyone I know loved it. You probably just wrote a bad review for attention because every other review will be amazing. Your probably just pissed because you can’t get layed because you are a loser with no credibility. Get a life and stop writing shit that is poorly written and completely illogical.
Dude, the only thing i agree with this post is how you loved the drama development. It was great to see him prevail. But for you to shoot down the ari and terrence moment is weak. Did you even watch season 2? The resentment, jealousy, and hatred these two guys had with each to finally shakes hands and come to terms with each other was a great touch to the show. “Paintball gun, is that the best we’ve got?” Really man? I thought that was one of the funniest parts of the episode! Who else would come into an agency shoot people with paint balls and then fire them? Truly classic. I’m glad to see another are-mrs ari scene as well. The most boring part of the ep was Turtle doing his whole New Zealand thing. If anybody had any real sense we all knew Jaime couldnt be in the season forever. She had to go and she didnt really add much comedy or interest anyways. But I am glad that they actually gave Turtle more air time because he does deserve it. And here is where i disagree with the most Alex. The most surprising and shocking storyline of the ep was Sloan and E getting engaged. I almost shed a tear when E proposed to her, because everyone knew how much they loved each other and its about time some huge happened between them. remember ep 1 of this season at Vinces premiere where Jamie quotes “There in love they just dont know it” or something along those lines (great foreshadowing). Also, think of the conflicts that could come in next season because of it. We all rather of watched Sloan on every ep then watch damn Ashley add no entertainment. By the way, how did they get Bono lol. Anyways Alex, i agree with Ame, to complain about this episode just shows you want attention. And please dont post your theories for the next season because nobody cares!
By the way it was great seeing this ep be longer then 30min and also watching Matt Damon cry and curse out Vince after the credits!
Wow, I agreee with Ame and Zak. I read Alex lawson’s review and I immediately thought “what this guy never watched any of the other seasons”. However I am not a professional critic and not even sure Alex is but as a Entourage fan who loved the first 2 seasons then watched the following seasons when I could absolutely loved the season finale. The show is changing with style and hopefully turning into a huge deal to come. I have to give props to the writers and direction of this last season alone especially this brilliant finale.
Also, why does it seem there always has to be someone who brings negativity into something. ALWAYS! That annoys the hell out of me. It’s like people love to watch something to only rip it apart. Try doing what I do. Watch a show/program giving it the benefit of the doubt and if it doesn’t live up to it’s expectations then you have something to write about! Alex, seems that you were already thinking of negative thoughts going in writing this review.
Wow Ame794…talk about the hypocrite; granted you didn’t post a review but you had the nerve to rip on the author for bad grammar and within your second sentence you are making grammar errors as well…Should we cast you out of society for being a “retard”? (not sure how having one mistake in a large entry makes somebody a “retard”-however, having multiple grammatical errors in a single paragraph makes me believe otherwise) I disagree with your opinion stating this season has been genius, I think it has been far from it. And while everyone you know may have loved it, I’m not so sure that proves to be the ultimate winning point on whether something truly was “good”. With that, you must be dead on with your opinion of the author not being able to get laid, I bet he just beats himself up all night thinking about that, poor guy…Oh and how does credibility fit in here? I didn’t realize I was reading the news, oh wait, I’m not, I’m reading a review about Entourage…
PS. please look up the word illogical in the dictionary, because I have a good feeling you clearly do not know the meaning of it
SIT DOWN, class dismissed
Look, I honestly dont care whether or not the author did a good job of reviewing this episode. I thought it was an awesome episode. I loved the plot development and the part with Ari shooting paint balls at the agents he was firing was hysterical. The part with Sloan and E was emotional, and i dont know if every girl would accept a proposal like that, but im not shocked that she did. It was understood from the beginning that they had feelings for each other. The most boring part of the season was turtle’s flight to N.Z, but even then it was there to develop plot. Finally, i just want to say, JOHNY DRAMA RULES!
Great Season
The season finale i would have to say is one of the best finales i’ve seen for this show in a long time. Last season was all about fixing Vinces life, this season he’s fine so its great to see everyone finally better themselves and progress.
Drama coming out with an actual future in acting and finally getting his own show was beautiful, its about time. I’m actual happy he listened all his failures and because of that hes grown and is gaining a real career.
Turles story line was kinda deaded, i felt bad, but we all saw jamie leaving.
E and Sloans argument and ending with a possible engagement is totally believable, did you even notice sloans reaction? She looked so surprised and she was filled with so much anger to finally get the dam guy to really commit and start over with a future. I loved how she even told him to go with the guys and he did a double take and they went off. Priceless. the guys will always be together, but now lifes finally changing. yea they can be the rat pack forever, but thinking they’re all gonna be single and messing with girls until they’re 50 and then try something serious is ridiculous.
I think this show has truly grown and will only get better.
ps…i hope sloan becomes E’s “Mrs.Ari” that would be a total shocker
Yeah, I’m not one to badmouth someone over the internet, but you really are an idiot. You do realize that being so off the mark on something so plainly great as this episode was throws everything else you say into question? The episode was brilliant for the aforementioned reasons, and you, sir, are just wrong.
I can’t wait for Season 7.
Let’s take off the rose-colored glasses here. The show’s best moments are behind it. I think all of us want the show to be as good as it once was – that’s why we still watch – but come on, the creative team has clearly run out of ideas and was spinning its wheels all season long. Do any of us actually believe Drama is a good actor who’d warrant his own CBS show? Hasn’t the idea of him being a serious actor been a running joke the entire series. “Viking Quest” anyone? The E-Sloan climax was beyond ridiculous and the writers can’t think of anything for either Vince or Turtle to do except have sex (Vince) and wear the latest Kangol hat (Turtle). Goodbye, “Entourage” – it’s been real.
It pains me to say that Entourage has jumped the shark. This lackluster season failed on every aspect that made so many people love this show. There was a time when I cared what happened with their careers, love life, and friendships. I cared because they all faced adversity and overcame it. The show has been a rollercoaster and then the sixth season rolls around for a straight track. How many times did we have to hear E complain about his non-existent relationship with Sloan. The engagement is preposterous and poorly written. What a cop out for what was in previous seasons good drama. I can’t believe someone would consider that good writing or better yet a believable situation. I understand it’s a television show, but they hadn’t been together in years. The “friendship” was not even going well. Drama has been the saving grace for season 6. He is the only character that genuinely evokes any emotions with maybe the exception of Lloyd. My problem is that season six was too neat and clean. I understand that art evolves, but they had a winning formula for five seasons.
I’m gonna repost here and say are Nick and Andrew really serious right now? I’ll admit Entourage will never be as good as season 1 and 2 and even 3. But truly what fucking show is? They took a raw idea of a celebrity hanging out with his friends, smoking weed and doing chicks. And now you guys give them shit for trying to develop their characters? This season was all about E, Turtle, and Drama which was totally fine with me since season 5 was all dedicated to Vince and building his character. Hell, I guarantee you 2 plus Alex would bitch if Entourage did the same shit every season just picking up chicks and all and not given any character development what so ever Actually I know you 2 would bitch because you all will never be satisfied. These guys are 30 and 40 now they cant just chase pussy forever and im glad they gave E a marriage plot. Ok, Yeah the Ashley development was weak this season but it was to setup E to realize there’s no one else out there he will ever love more then Sloan. This show still had his laughs, conflict, and interest and ended on a fucking excellent note with its season finally. This isn’t the God damn Sopranos (in my opinion fell short with its last 3 seasons) and you have to take it for what it is. A simple 30 minute show seems to have a lot of impact on a bunch of people to where they have to go the extra mile to try and bash it. If you dont like it then dont watch it, but i put it all on black that all you negative people will watch it because you all know it’s good and for being on for 6 seasons it’s still running strong and putting out great storylines. That’s my piece and I can’t wait to watch next season, but all your haters stop wasting time and keep your negative comments to yourself. Including Alex the reason why I cant take bloggers seriously.
