24 Brings Back Gregory Itzin; Other Season 8 Details
By Josh Clinton - November 9, 2009 | Email the author

It looks like former President Charles Logan has recovered from being stabbed.

FOX says Gregory Itzin will reprise his role as the oily ex-commander in chief on 24 this season. The current president (Cherry Jones) will reluctantly ask for help from Logan — last seen taking a knife from his wife in season six — with the latest international crisis that drives the season.

“The opportunity for these two remarkable actors to share the stage was simply too compelling to pass up,” executive producer Howard Gordon says.

The network has also offered up the broad outlines of what’s going to happen in the new season, which is scheduled to begin Sunday, Jan. 17 and move to its regular Monday-night home the following night. The action will be driven by a plot to assassinate a Middle Eastern leader (Anil Kapoor, Slumdog Millionaire) who’s speaking at the United Nations, and retired grandfather Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is drawn back into the reconstituted CTU, because that’s what he does.

Annie Wersching and Mary Lynn Rajskub will return as Renee Walker and Chloe O’Brian; Katee Sackhoff, Mykelti Williamson and Freddie Prinze Jr. will also play CTU agents. In addition to Itzin, Stephen Root and David Anders will have guest arcs this season.

  1. We’d really like to see more of Cherry Jones as “President Taylor.” Last season we (as in fans of Cherry Jones) felt cheated because they moved the ’story arc’ away from President Taylor. Also, they should allow ‘President Taylor’ to look a lot more like Cherry Jones looks in real life and a lot less like ‘Ma Kettle.’

But you know how FOX is: perfidious. So we’re not holding our breath.
